Nashoba U10 Girls

Nashoba Grizzlies U10 defeat Walpole Express in a tight battle 1-0.  The Girls U10 team gutted out a hard-fought victory against Walpole Express with outstanding defense and perfect goaltending to take the game, 1-0.  Mackenzie Donoghue dominated with great save after great save, even when faced with an offensive barrage at the end of the game.  With no score in the first period, Nashoba came out strong to begin the second, and took the lead with a nicely placed goal by Belle Field with the assist going to Alice Homer.  Field also had a great breakaway shot during the third, but was shut down by a beautiful save by the Walpole goalie.  Jocelyn Silva stood out on offense, while the entire team made strong defensive contributions.  The Grizzlies next play Needham U10 at Nashoba Olympia on November 1 at 8:00 a.m.

The Nashoba U10 Girls lost a tough game to Medfield with a score of 7-5.  Zoe Musante gave a very strong performance on both offense and defense, and led the scoring with a hat trick and 1 assist.  Rounding off the scoring for Nashoba was Jocelyn Silva, with 2 goals.  Emily Lux offered up the only assist for the Grizzlies, while Alice Homer and Belle Field played a strong game on the forward line.  Callie Haggan was aggressive and played well on defense throughout the game.  Mackenzie Donoghue once again had a good game in the net with a number of great saves, including one on a Medfield breakaway that soared past the Grizzlies defensive line.  It was a tough back and forth game, but in the end the Grizzlies were unable to hold off the Medfield offense.  The Girls next play on Saturday at 12:20 p.m. in Watertown against Walpole Express.

The Nashoba Girls U12 team was on the wrong end of a 5-2 score versus Wellesley on Saturday. Nashoba Squirt A

The Nashoba Squirt A team had a close game Sunday against the Groton Crusaders, falling short 5-6 in the final 2 minutes of the game.  Murphy MacLeod started the scoring with an assist from Damian DiNitto.  Murphy didn’t let up and scored a second from Ethan Koehr after the next face-off.  Groton poked in 2 by the end of the first period to tie it up.  Nathan LoConte scored first for the Grizzlies in the second period, again with the assist from Ethan Koehr.  Groton came back with 2 goals to take the lead, 3-4, at the end of the second period.  The third period became an intense back-and-forth battle.  Groton picked up the first goal but Murphy MacLeod answered, with an assist from Owen Boyer, to secure his 3rd goal of the game and earning himself a hat trick.  In the final 3 minutes, Ethan Koehr tied up the action with a pass from Nathan LoConte.  Nashoba couldn’t hold on and Groton clinched the win in the final minutes. Cameron Joos made some unbelievable saves in goal, saving 33 shots!  Steve Reedy and Matthew Loyall played well defensively.  While Kieran Humphreys, Jack Borges and Charles Becker kept the pressure on offense.

Nashoba Squirt AA

Nashoba Grizzlies beat Lowell 4-3 on Saturday.  The Squirt AA team kept up their winning ways this past Saturday evening with a win over their toughest opponent to date, a scrappy greater Lowell team.  The scoring was started by Charlie Bonenfant in the first period unassisted with a nice backhand into the net.  Greater Lowell would answer with a goal on the unstoppable Luke Buretta between the pipes with 51 seconds remaining in the period.   The second period would prove to be a battle in both zones with Jarod Dantas scoring the only goal on a nice pass from Bryan Fitzgerald, ending the second period Grizzlies up by 1.   Greater Lowell would respond in the third with a quick goal.  Bonenfant immediately returned with a break away from a pass from defenseman Tyler Santosousso (Swaz) earning Swaz with an assist.  It was Bonenfant’s second for the game leaving the score tied.  After some outstanding defense by Zoe Musante and Ben Svaboda, Josh Laqudara scored on a nice set up by Dantas sealing the deal 4 to 3.   Of note, the normally outstanding defense woman, Riley Molongoski played forward and had two blistering shots on net.

Nashoba Squirt AAA

The Nashoba Grizzlies defeat Concord-Carlisle 7-3.  The Nashoba Squirt AAA continued their winning ways on Saturday vs Concord Carlisle Squirt AA.  The Grizzlies got on the board early when Will Gaynor scored within the first minute of the game.  Tyler Frazee scored 3 minutes later with a great wrap-around backhanded goal.  Two minutes later Frazee scored off the face off from the circle to the left of the CC goalie.  Nashoba on top 3-0.  Concord Carlisle scored a few minutes later, 3-1.  With .29 left in the first period Jack Funaro made a great forward pass to Matt Mulhern who skated in front of the net and deked the goalie to end the period.  Nashoba 4-1. The second period was quiet with only one goal at 3:05 remaining.  Jack Nelken shot from the point where Gaynor was waiting to tuck in the goal.  Jon Doherty was great in net turning away shots and making several glove saves.  Doherty was well protected today by defensive pairs Cam Daly and Ben Solari and Nate Mucci and Jack Nelken.  Nashoba got on the board two more times in the third.  Jack Funaro stuffed home a shot by Gaynor to make it 6-1. With 6 minutes left in the game Matt Mulhern broke away with the puck and shot on the net where a well-positioned Ben Logan was there to slam home the 7th goal.  Concord Carlisle got two quick goals to end the game. Nashoba wins 7-3.

The Nashoba Squirt AAA crush the Northern Cyclones 10-0.  Nashoba came out strong scoring in the first 10 seconds with a goal by Jack Funaro assisted by Will Gaynor.   Drew Kapetanakis scored 3 goals in the first assisted by defenseman Cam Daly and wingers Devin Marshall and Daniel Son.   Will Gaynor scored unassisted in the second period to make it 6-0.  Strong defense by Ben Solari, Cam Daly, Nate Mucci and Jack Nelken kept the scoring chances to a minimum for the Cyclones.  Jack Nelken, Devin Marshall, Ben Logan and Drew Kapetanakis (scored twice for a 5 goal game total) all scored in the third with assists from Ben Solari and Nathan Mucci to wrap the game 10-0.    John Doherty had a couple of breakaways to contend with but he wasn’t letting any goals in today.   Great passing and team effort from all the players on the Nashoba Grizzlies for a strong win at Conway.

The Nashoba Squirt AAA took a tough loss on Saturday night in Lawrence vs Newburyport Squirt AA, 8-1.
Newburyport scored first in the first period, but Nashoba answered when Drew Kapetanakis took a shot on goal, the puck deflected off the Newburyport goalie to a waiting Jack Funaro who shot it in the net, Devin Marshall also assisted. The first period ended 1-1.  That would do it for the Grizzlies scoring opportunities, the rest was all Newburyport, who scored 5 in the second and 2 in third.  Ben Solari and Cam Daly stood out on defense and Jon Doherty made some great glove saves but the Nashoba Squirt AAA’s just didn’t match up Saturday night. They will play again Sunday, Nov 1 @ 6:50pm in Hudson NH vs North Andover

Nashoba Bantam AAA

Nashoba Grizzlies Bantam AAA team defeated Acton Boxboro Colonials 2-1 Saturday at Janus rink in Lowell. Goals were scored by line centers Tim Kelleher and Max Strong with an assist by Liam Fisher. It took a full and complete game effort by everyone on the team to gain the victory anchored by a strong game in net by Ben Canfield.  The pace of the game was frenetic from first puck drop. With the refs allowing the two teams to play without a single called penalty, the competition became heated with lots of meaningful physicality from both sides. Acton Boxboro had the Grizzlies on their heels late but Nashoba was able to stay just poised and disciplined enough behind strong overall team defense to thwart all last efforts by the Colonials.
