Sandra Habe was recognized by the Board of Selectmen, Nov. 15, with a certificate of appreciation for her 18 years of service as the town’s assistant director of Recreation, Parks, and Cemeteries.
She is leaving the post for a position with Christopher Yule of Newton-based Yule Development Company. Yule is the developer who rehabilitated the Abbot Mill in the Forge Village section, and turned it into residences.
He recently purchased the former Courier Corp. buildings from Chicago-based printing company, RR Donnelly. The five buildings, vacated about a year ago, were used for printing and storage. Yule is leasing a portion of the 268,000 square feet to the town’s Recreation Department and is planning to create a recreation center on the property.
Habe initiated and ran the the Department’s crew program, now “well recognized throughout the state,” according to Selectman Chairman Andrea Peraner-Sweet.
Peraner-Sweet said Habe started the summer program, “Kids Club” in 1998 with a small group of children. Today it has about 100 participants per week, Peraner-Sweet said.
“On behalf of all of us, we’d like to say goodbye as well as best wishes for continued success,” said Peraner-Sweet.
