Would you know if your child is depressed? Or anxious? Have you or anyone you know ever contemplated suicide? It would be nearly impossible to find someone today who has not been affected by mental illness in some way. Even if you don’t struggle with it yourself, you are bound to know someone who does. Join the Westford Parent Connection next WEDNESDAY, JAN. 25, at 7 p.m. at Stony Brook School, 9 Farmer Way, Westford, for an eye-opening presentation, Understanding And Living With Depression And Anxiety.
The talk will be given by Sue Hanly, RN, NCSN, Dianne Walsh, LICSW, and Caroline Hanly, MS. Hanly and Walsh run a mental health support group in Westford, and they – along with Sue’s daughter Caroline – have addressed the public many times. Despite how prevalent depression and anxiety are, most of us are afraid to talk about it. And that can make the situation worse.
The event is free and open to the public, and is appropriate for parents, teens, teachers, and anyone else who works with children and young adults.
The presenters will offer information to share, both from a professional standpoint and from their own personal lives. Program organizers characterize the presenters as knowledgeable and compassionate, and completely unflappable in terms of talking about mental illness. The more we know, the better equipped we will be to help the young people in our lives.
