While the Westford Board of Selectmen race is nonpartisan, there is one candidate that stands above the rest as statesman versus a politician. The definition of a statesman is one with a bedrock of principles, a moral compass, a positive vision for the community as a whole and the ability to build consensus. In this upcoming race that person is Dennis Galvin.

Dennis has been an active participant in Westford affairs for more than 30 years. He has been deeply engaged in both elected and volunteer positions such as youth athletic programs, Westford Against Substance Abuse and the Master Plan Development Committee. In this town, he has initiated and chaired several growth management bylaw committees, worked on state elected boards, and his 12 years on the Planning Board are legendary. It is because of these experiences that his ability to be transparent in his discussions, open to dialogue of other ideas and focused on working to a consensus, makes him a great asset to the town.

More than simply serving, Dennis has lived the Westford experience. He had four children go through the Westford School system, protected this state in a public safety position and managed critical situations in his private sector career. His intellectual curiosity, flexibility in dealing with difficult situations, courage to make a decision and be clear about why he made the choice, make him well suited for what we need on the next BOS. There are few with the breadth and depth of experience in building Westford that Dennis Galvin has.

So to paraphrase one of his sayings: “Common Sense and Common Civility should be our Common Virtues.”  Let’s elect Dennis Galvin and step into the future. — Wade Fox, Hartford Road
