As a parent of young children, I am impressed with the fact Dennis Galvin is the only candidate for the Board of Selectmen, who is willing to address a major problem that threatens our children, the drug crisis.  The Massachusetts Department of Health is telling us that this crisis is growing daily, destroying more and more young lives through death and addiction.  A person would have to be incredibly naïve to think that Westford was not impacted.

The drug threat has become worse with the legalization of marijuana. The supply of marijuana  in our state and in our community will inevitably grow. More and more of it will be available to fall into the hands of our children. Marijuana use by the young can have devastating effects on their mental and emotional development.

Dennis Galvin is a retired Major from the Massassachusetts State Police.  He understands what it takes to develop an effective response to this crisis here in Westford. He served on the Board of Directors for Westford Against Substance Abuse and has proposed a task force comprised of the police, Health Department and School Department to address the issue head-on.

He has experience working with these partners before, when he chaired the Registered Marijuana Dispensary Committee, which was charged with drafting a by-law to regulate medical marijuana sales in town. The Police Department, Board of Health and School Department, under Dennis’s leadership, crafted one of the most comprehensive local by-laws in the state for regulating the sale of medical marijuana. Dennis believes that crafting strict bylaws for regulating the use of recreational marijuana in town is an integral part of any strategy to address drug use in the community.

The choice is clear.  If you are concerned about the dangers posed by opioids and marijuana to  your children, then there is only one candidate in this race with the background and experience to address this concern and that is Dennis Galvin. — Bill Mantville, Almeria Circle
