Coined “Westford’s version of the Big Dig” by Town Manager Jodi Ross, a construction project will soon begin in the center of town. WestfordCAT asked Town Engineer Paul Starrat to fill us in on the details. Here’s what he had to say:

Where does it begin and end?

The project limits start at the intersection of Main Street and Depot Street near the Frost School for approximately 4,000 feet to the intersection of Main Street and Tadmuck Road.  There is also a few hundred feet of work proposed on Kirsi Circle to install new drainage pipes.

Will traffic be detoured?

The Westford Police Department will be on site throughout the project to direct traffic and maintain a safe work zone.  At certain times during the project, detours may be in place, but accommodations will be made for residents to access their property during construction. School buses will continue service on their designated routes without interruption and all businesses will be open and accessible.  Commuters should anticipate delays and consider alternate routes.  For up-to-date commuting and traffic information, residents can register for email and social media notifications at www.westfordma.gov/subscriber and select “Latest Road Construction News.”

What’s the timeline?

Work is scheduled to begin on May 1, but there may be some non-construction activities leading up to that date. The project schedule allows for seven months, with substantial completion in November. The contractor may return for a brief time the following April to complete minor items.

For additional information or questions about this project, please contact: Paul Starratt, P.E. Town Engineer at 978-399-2716; pstarratt@westfordma.gov.
