As newly elected Town Moderator Susan McNeil Spuhler celebrated her victory on the night of May 2, the outgoing town moderator arrived with a present for her, according to Library Trustee Hajo Koester who was in the room.

Ellen Harde, who served as moderator for a quarter century arrived at Bamboo Restaurant in Westford with her gavel in hand to pass it on to Spuhler.

“Ellen Harde came to deliver her gavel to Susan — a gavel Ellen received from the previous town moderator when Ellen was elected Westford town moderator 25 years ago,” stated Koester.

Spuhler beat out Thomas Severo and Don Siriani for the three-year seat.
