In The Gallery Sundays in May, 12 – 2 p.m. and by appointment

John Maestranzi, “Travels through New England, An Artist’s Journey

In the gallery this May will be exhibited “Travels through New England, An Artist’s Journey” featuring watercolors by Artist John Maestranzi.

Maestranzi grew up in New Jersey and has lived in Westford since 1977.  After working in the insurance industry for 42 years, retirement in 2014 allowed Maestranzi the opportunity to connect to his creative, artistic side.  He took his first watercolor class in the fall of 2014 at the Roudenbush Community Center with Cynthia Van Horne Ehrlich and has been painting ever since.

Although his style is still evolving and he enjoys experimenting with different techniques, Maestranzi strives to capture the effect of sunlight at different times of the day in his subjects. “I enjoy capturing architectural detail in light houses and home portraits. My pictures are done from photographs of places I’ve been and scenes of everyday life. The Maine coast, particularly the Mt. Desert/ Acadia National Park area, and the White Mountains of New Hampshire are major sources of inspiration”, he explains.

This exhibit, “Travels through New England, An Artist’s Journey”, is as much about John’s progress and development as a painter as it is a pictorial journal of the places he’s been and fondly recalls.   John’s watercolors are on display for the month of May with gallery hours on Sundays from noon – 2 p.m. and by appointment. Sound Energy, Chamber Concert Sunday, May 21, 4 p.m.

Sound Energy is a dynamic, Boston-based string trio committed to exploring new sounds, new collaborations, and new music. Established in 2013 by founding members Micah Brightwell (violin) and Ashleigh Gordon (viola) with the subsequent addition of Benjamin Swartz (cello), SE is constantly searching for ways to push the traditional violin-viola-cello combination to represent the bold, daring voices of 20th- & 21st-century composers.

SE has worked closely with award-winning composers Jeffrey Mumford and Marti Epstein, has commissioned rising stars John Aylward, Anthony Green, Noam Faingold, Evan Kassof, Daniel T. Lewis, and Daniel Miller, and has performed on the Equilibrium Concert Series, Advent Library Series, and at Clark University in Massachusetts. With a repertoire spanning Anton Webern to Andrew Norman, Sound Energy stands at the forefront of a new generation in contemporary music with ambitious upcoming projects including tours, residencies, and large-scale commissions – all in a continued effort to explore the energy of sound.
