After the 2015 Super Bowl when the Patriots won against the Seattle Seahawks, the expression around New England was “the butler did it.”
Malcolm Butler, a Patriots Cornerback, did it again on June 5 by leading his team to a 100 to 51 victory in a charity basketball game inside the sold out Westford Academy gym.
The crowd of 800 had no idea which Patriot first stringer would appear on the basketball court until the players’ names were announced just before the tip off.
Joining Butler were his Patriots teammates, Cornerback Justin Coleman, Offensive Guard Chase Farris, Defensive End Trey Flowers, and Safety Duron Harmon.
Among the Westford Academy representatives were Class of 2016 Tommy Jacobsen, and Class of 2017 members Angela Alibrandi, and Max Silverman.
The event is sponsored by the WA Athletic Boosters who fund more than 40 annual scholarships, purchase athletic equipment, fund all the awards, letters, and pins, as well as the banners that hang in the gym.
In the 49th Super Bowl, Butler intercepted a Seahawks pass at the Patriot’s 1-yard goal line with 26 seconds left on the clock. The play put the Patriots in a position to make a touchdown. They won the game 28 to 24.
Butler’s role in the win made him a household name around New England. His appearance yesterday in Westford brought a great deal of cheering.
At half-time, the Cornerback and his teammates signed autographs.
