More than 100 danced to the beat at the East Boston Camps Sock Hop on June 17.
East Boston Camps Board Member Sunny Killoran estimates that about $25,000 was raised at the event. The money will go toward the cost of an architectural plan to refurbish the infirmary on the property.
The 287-acre parcel has several rustic buildings that are available to rent for large and small groups. The Friends of East Boston Camps raise money for the upkeep of the property.
East Boston Camps was founded in 1937 by the East Boston Social Centers, Inc., a service agency created to help children and teens in need and those from immigrant families. East Boston Social Centers ran the camp in Westford for 70 years.
The town purchased the property in February 2005. The buildings that remain, including cabins for sleeping and a dining hall, were built for the camp.
