The Kindness Rocks movement has reached Westford.

School Committee Alicia Mallon and her daughter, Charlotte, were on a blanket in the shade at Edwards Beach on Aug. 23 painting rocks with rainbows, stars, and messages of kindness.

Kindness Rocks is a national project meant to inspire others and recruit everyone who finds a rock to participate in leaving one.

The plan was to leave the small rocks around playgrounds, walking trails, and schools.

The idea is that “someone will come upon it and find a colorful surprise,” said Mallon.

Charlotte, who will be a second-grader at the Nabnasset School this year, said she painted a rainbow for her friend Keira, because Keira “really likes rainbows.”

Mother and daughter were expecting more participants during the afternoon.
