The Friends October Book Sale is this Weekend! : A Friends Members Only Sale will be held on Friday evening, Oct. 13 from 6:30 to 9 p.m.  A Friends membership (which may be purchased at the door) is necessary for attending the preview sale.  The entire public is invited Saturday, Oct. 14 for an all-day sale, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to the special half price extravaganza on Sunday, Oct.15 from 2 to 4 p.m.

India Through Literature Series with Professor Bruce Browne: Monday, Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. Books provide an interesting and direct way to experience a culture; our fall book series on India presents a variety of perspectives on a complex country. All book discussions will be augmented with music and film clips that touch on themes of the text. Monday, Oct. 16, 1-2:30 p.m. “The Inheritance of Loss” by Kiran Desai, Monday, Nov. 20, 1-2:30 p.m. “Sideways on a Scooter” by Miranda Kennedy, Monday, Dec. 18, 1-2:30 p.m. “Indian Summer: the Secret History of the End of an Empire” by Alex von Tunzelmann. Copies of the current selection are available for checkout at the Main Desk. No registration required. This program is generously funded by the Friends of the Library.

Adult Coloring Party: Thursday, Oct.19 at 7 p.m. Are you looking for a relaxing way to spend the evening? Explore the latest trend in relaxation; adult coloring books. Specially designed adult coloring pages and colored pencils will be provided.  Light refreshments will be served. No registration required.

Lego® Club: Saturday, Oct. 21 from 2 to 3 p.m.  Come create something fun with Library Legos®. All creations will be displayed in the library until the next time we meet. Free drop-in for ages 5 and up with parent or caregiver.

 Monday Mystery Book Club:  Monday, Oct. 23 at 10:30 a.m. Wake up your week with a stimulating book discussion.  We meet once a month on Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the Mary Atwood Room. Our October selection is “Murder in the Marais” by Cara Black. Copies of the current selection are available for check-out at the Main Desk.   Newcomers are always welcome to drop in and join our lively group conversations.

Bimonthly Knitting Group: Monday, Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m.  Do you enjoy knitting? Drop in to our informal knitting group with a new evening meeting time. The group meets the second Monday of the month from 3 to 5 p.m. and the fourth Monday of the month from 6:30-8:30 p.m. This is a drop-in program that is open to all ages. Bring your latest project and share advice and socialize with other knitters. If you have any questions, please call Kristina Leedberg at 978-399-2309

Drop-in Halloween Craft: Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Make one or all: a batty bookmark, a Frankenstein’s monster sun catcher, or a hanging bat. Free. Drop in with a parent or caregiver. Best for ages 4 and up.

New England’s General Stores: Exploring an American Classic: Thursday, Oct. 26 at 7 p.m. Ted Reinstein, author and TV reporter for Chronicle is back to discuss his latest book, “New England’s General Stores.” The General Store was the place to pick up mail, chat over a cup of coffee, and buy penny candy. It was the heart of the community and in some places it still is the town gathering spot. No registration required. This program is funded by the Friends of the Library.
