A collision between a Toyota sedan and a dump truck sent one person to the hospital on Oct. 6 and shut down a portion of the major state road for hours.
According to Westford Police Capt. Victor Neal, a preliminary investigation suggests that the unidentified Toyota driver turned into an oncoming truck’s path in front of 254 Littleton Road at about 11:45 a.m.
The truck rolled over the car, crunching its front.
Firefighters had to extricate the male driver from the Toyota. He suffered serious injuries to his lower body and was taken to a hospital, Neal said.
A National Grid utility pole was hit in the collision causing a transformer atop it to leak a non-hazardous liquid and requiring the eastbound lane to remain closed until after 6 p.m.
At 4 p.m. the eastbound lane along Littleton Road remained closed with several National Grid trucks on the scene. Traffic was being rerouted to Powers and Concord Roads.
Returning a phone calling seeking comment at 6:08 p.m on Oct. 6, National Grid Spokesman Kathie Cornelius said utility trucks were about to leave the scene and open the road after securing the safety of the pole. Later that night, Bamboo Fine Asian Cuisine and Restaurant, at 1 Lan Drive, just off Route 110, was lit up after reportedly having lost electrical power that afternoon along with several other nearby businesses.
Neal said the accident remains under investigation.
