Some 50 veterans attended a special dinner prepared just for them on Nov. 26 inside the newly refurbished Nashoba Tech dining room.
The Thanksgiving Day celebration for the nation’s cherished military members of yesteryear was served by Nashoba Tech students in the ninth and tenth grades.
“This is a wonderful event that’s been going on, as far as I know for a decade,” said Superintendent Denise Pigeon. “It’s sponsored by one of our regular guests to the restaurant…”
The event was sponsored by John Conner of Chelmsford who’s been underwriting the dinner for several years. It was his late wife’s idea to fund it. Sadly, she died three years ago, but the dinner has continued.
The veterans all live in houses in Lowell that are sponsored by residents. The Bedford Veterans Affairs Medical Center dispenses staff social workers to watch over the program but provides no funding for it.
Overseeing the kitchen operation was Hospitality Instructor Jeremy Bussiere. Turkey, peas, Butternut squash and cranberry sauce filled the plates.
Conner said he takes no part in deciding the menu, leaving it up to the Culinary skills of the school’s hospitality instructor, Jeremy Bussiere.
“It takes quite a few people, it’s not just me,” said Conner. “We’ve been doing this now for a number of years.”
