WESTFORD — The following releases were submitted by Nashoba Tech for publication and distribution.

Athlete of the Month

Sydney Rokita of Westford has been selected as a January Athletes of the Month at Nashoba Valley Technical High School.

Sydney Rokita, daughter of Tom and Kathryn Rokita of Westford, is a sophomore standout for the indoor track team, excelling in the 300 meters, 600 meters, 55-meter hurdles and high jump. She also plays soccer and softball for the Vikings. She is an honor-roll student in the Auto Collision Repair & Refinishing program, and plans to go to college after graduation.

She was nominated by track coach Bruce Sullivan, who wrote: “Sydney is an outstanding leader. She was voted as team captain by her peers, as she leads by example and always encourages her teammates to do their best.”

Student of the Month

Shaun Driscoll Jr. of Westford has been selected as a Nashoba Valley Technical High School Student of the Month for January, based on the school’s “Portrait of a Graduate” attributes: resourceful, responsible, resilient, respectful and ready.

Shaun, son of Shaun and Malvena Driscoll, is a senior from Westford in the Plumbing & Heating program. He has participated in SkillsUSA and, through his church, spent time last summer helping to renovate homes in Pennsylvania. He is a three-sport athlete for the Vikings. This is his second time being recognized as a Student of the Month, having achieved the honor as a freshman.

Shaun was nominated by math instructor Mark Quattrocchi, who called him one of the best students he has taught in his more than 30 years of teaching.

“Recently, Shaun has taken it upon himself to quietly help his peers who are having difficulties with new materials,” he added. “I have witnessed his kind and thoughtful approach to treating his classmates who are struggling on multiple occasions. Shaun is a top-shelf person in every aspect.”
