WESTFORD — Nashoba Valley Technical High School could soon expand to provide additional space for some of its technical programs.
The Nashoba Valley Technical High School School Committee unanimously authorized Superintendent Denise Pigeon to seek approval for the project during a Dec. 12 meeting.
According to an application filed on Jan. 4, the school seeks to construct an approximately 7,000 square foot addition to accommodate instructional space. The space will house the school’s robotics, engineering and programming and web development programs.
“This will increase opportunities for collaborative projects, integrated programming and state of the art equipment sharing,” Pigeon wrote in a Dec. 18 letter to the Planning Board.
She added, “this addition will be utilized to improve and increase training capacity for our high school students and provide additional opportunities for adult career retraining in the afternoons and evenings to meet the expanding regional demands for skilled workers.”
The space will be used to relocate existing shop space closer to the school’s advanced manufacturing program.
The proposed expansion would be built on an already paved lot and would not impact pedestrian and vehicle movement on school grounds.
The one-story building will share a brick facade with the school and will “not be a prominent structure.”
The project has already received a $3,750,000 grant from the state to offset some costs. The applicant is seeking site plan approval and a waiver for a $3,700 filing fee.
The proposal will be discussed in a public hearing during a Feb. 5 Planning Board meeting.
