WESTFORD — U.S. News & World Report recently ranked Westford Academy among their list of best high schools in Massachusetts and best high schools across the country.

Westford Academy was ranked as 32nd best high school in Massachusetts, 27th best in Metro Boston and 775th best in the country, according to the new report released last week.

Founded in 1792, Westford Academy is one of the oldest public high schools in the country, with its original building now housing the Westford Museum.

Boston Latin School was ranked as the best high school in Massachusetts and 46th nationally by the report. The only other school from New England to make the top 100 list nationwide was the Pioneer Valley Chinese Immersion Charter School in Hadley, Massachusetts, which was ranked 96th best in the country.

According to the report, nearly 18,000 public high schools out of more than 24,000 reviewed were ranked. Rankings are determined by factors such as schools whose students demonstrated outstanding outcomes above expectations in math, reading and science state assessments, earned qualifying scores on an array of college-level exams, and graduated in high proportions.

The report also said the schools needed to have a 12th grade enrollment of 15 students or greater in order to qualify for the ranking.
