Culinary students at Nashoba Valley Technical High School have their own restaurant, and now they have an award to go with it.
Students and staff from the school recently participated in the “Evening of Sweet Indulgence” at the UMass Lowell Inn and Conference Center, earning top-three honors in the dessert category for its “Mini-Tropical Fruit Taco.”
“Top three is unbelievable, considering the competition,” said
Chef-Instructor Carley Engle. “I can’t tell you how many people came up to us and said we had the best dessert because it was pretty much the only one without chocolate in it.”
Other establishments in the competition included, 50 Warren,
Angelina’s, Burton’s Grille, Cobblestones, Holiday Inn, Karma,
Moonstones, Orange Leaf, Owen and Ollie’s, Starbucks, Tuscan Kitchen,
The Candy Dish, The Chocolate Truffle, Two Chefs Are Better Than One,
and the United Teen Equality Center.
Nashoba Tech’s in-school restaurant, the Elegant Chef, has also won Best Entree awards in six of the last nine Taste of Nashoba Valley competitions, hosted by the Nashoba Valley Chamber of Commerce.
The Elegant Chef is gearing up for this year’s event, which is
planned for Tuesday, March 22, from 5:30 to 8 p.m., at Lawrence
Academy in Groton. Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door. For
