WESTFORD — Westford Academy’s Music Department will host their annual Winter Concert on Thursday.

The concert will feature all three of WA’s music ensembles: chorus, band and orchestra.

“[The concert] will showcase all of our work within our music department that we’ve done so far this fall,” music teacher Karen St. George said. “Most classes have unit tests; our unit test is a big performance.”

The concert is a result of the students’ work since their first day of school. According to band director Adam Shekleton, students have rehearsed within their own ensembles. Each ensemble will also come together for a joint rehearsal later this week.

“The transitions were very long last year,” Shekleton said. “This year we have taken some excellent steps to mitigate those issues. […] We will not be running the 2 1/2 show we previously did.”

Several students will also be recognized with an induction to the Tri M Music Honor Society during the concert.

“[The concert] is a way to recognize the hard work your friends and classmates throughout the music department and just enjoy the night,” senior Jake Bluestein said. “The music department here at WA really is something, and especially if you’re a senior I think everyone should try and come to at least one of these concerts before graduation.”

The event will be held on Dec. 14 at 7 p.m. at Westford Academy. The concert is free, but a suggested donation of $10 is encouraged.
