WESTFORD — The following statement was shared by the Westford Republican Town Committee for publication.

As a follow up to the current war in Israel, which began on Oct. 7 when agents of Hamas unleashed a savage assault on the state of Israel, the Westford Republican Town Committee laments the loss of all innocent lives.

While the RTC continues to condemn in the strongest terms the horrendous inhumanity perpetrated by the forces of Hamas, we recognize that their barbarism has now caused a major conflict and humanitarian crisis in Gaza in which thousands of men, women, and children have either been killed or wounded in the crossfire. The possibility that the Gaza operation could trigger a much wider conflict is highly plausible.

Our prayers go out to all the innocent people who have lost loved ones. War is never without tragedy, nor is it without division, already pitting Americans against one another. Humanity demands that civilization prevail and that bigotry be spurned.

More than ever, the United States needs strong and wise leadership. We need a Commander in Chief who will stand up to terrorists, while at the same time broker a long lasting agreement between Israel and Palestine. We need a prudent president who will not bring us into World War 3.

The Westford Republican Town Committee stands firmly against terrorism and condemns all crimes against humanity. While we recognize Israel’s right to exist, we stand firmly for a peaceful resolution and for protecting innocent lives.
