On Tuesday, 14 schools across the Commonwealth received bomb threats, and Nashoba Valley Technical High School was one of those schools.
An automated Skype message was left at the school at approximately 8:50 a.m. indicating that explosives had been placed inside a backpack within a Boston area high school, although Nashoba Tech was not named explicitly within the threat.
Immediately, Westford’s Police and Fire Departments were notified along with the Commonwealth Fusion Center: an alliance of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies sharing information on significant terrorism and public safety threats in Massachusetts.
Nashoba Tech Superintendent Dr. Judith Klimkiewicz also noted that Westford Police/Nashoba Tech School Resource Officer Det. Joseph Eracleo and other administrators performed a search for any suspicious backpacks, which occurred while students were within a 90-minute class.
After the search, parents were notified of the situation, no suspicious backpacks were found. According to Klimkiewicz, the incident had almost no impact on school activities.
In a statement made by the Massachusetts State Police, other towns with schools receiving bomb threats on Tuesday included Groton, Weymouth, Taunton, Arlington, Plymouth, Salisbury, Waltham, Ayer, Tewksbury, Newton, Billerica, Swampscott, Boston and Kingston.
