Members of the Tri-M Music Honor Society Choir at Nashoba Valley Technical High School had an opportunity to perform at the Massachusetts Statehouse recently.
This is an invitational event in which schools from across the state participate.
It was the first time a choir from a technical high school performed at the Statehouse and, according to Nashoba Tech Music Instructor Laura Lamore, the appearance highlighted the changes that have occurred in just the past decade in the burgeoning technical-education field.
After a tour of the Statehouse, the students performed on the Grand Staircase, singing six songs — “Glow” by Brett Eldredge; “Hine Ma Tov,” a Hebrew folk song, “A La Media Noche” by Greg Gilpin; “A Hanukkah Wish” by Andy Beck; “Grown-Up Christmas List” by David Foster; and “Holiday Road” by Lindsey Buckingham.
The students had a great time and performed beautifully,” Lamore said. “A member of the Statehouse staff stopped by and told us that everyone in the offices could hear us, and though they couldn’t leave their desks, they enjoyed the performance. I also saw security guards dancing on the balcony above us!”
Students performing at the Statehouse included: seniors Melynda Barlow (Ayer), Katie Carter (Chelmsford), Ashley Conrad (Pepperell), Elizabeth Hillman (Ayer), Connie Marinilli (Pepperell), Katherine Piecewicz (Ayer), Zelie Sears (Pepperell) and Cayleigh Sherwood (Pepperell); juniors Cassandra Girard (Townsend) and Gwendolyn Howson (Dracut); sophomores Kendra Carter (Chelmsford) and Abigail Poor (Chelmsford); and freshman Hannah Riley (Chelmsford).
