Friends of the Library Book Sale: The Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library, Inc. will be holding a book sale on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 11 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. On Sunday all materials will be offered at half price. There will be a preview sale for Friends members only on Friday, Feb. 9 from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.  Memberships will be available at the door.  Please note that scanners may not be used on Friday but are welcome on Saturday and Sunday. The sale will include over 15,000 books plus CDs, LPs/vinyl, audio books, and DVDs.  Regular prices are 50 cents and up for paperbacks and $1 and up for hardcover books. We are now accepting credit card payments in addition to checks and cash.

Looking for Your Book and Media Donations: The Friends of the Library will take unwanted books, audio and video materials for the direct benefit of the library and the community of Westford. These materials can be dropped off at the left-hand door just inside the library’s rear entrance.  If the Library is closed, they can be left in the collection box that is located near the back door of the library.  Tax deduction forms are available at the library’s main desk. The Friends of the J.V. Fletcher Library appreciate your support. 

 J.V. Fletcher Digital Archive: The Library now has digital copies of The Jubb Brothers Civil War Letters and The Rustic (A newspaper that included local news from Westford and surrounding towns for the year 1885.) Librarians will also be digitizing the microfilm collection of The Westford Eagle. Currently we have digitized copies of The Westford Eagle from 1970-1973. For issues of The Westford Eagle from 2005 to the present, please refer to the Databases page. Links to the digital archives are on our web page.

Story-Times: There are still spaces open in the registration story times: Baby Lap Time for babies 0-12 months and their caregivers, Wiggle Words for ages 2-3, and Book Bunch for ages 3-4. The Library also have space in the Mini Masters Art Book Club for kids in grades 3 to 5. Residents may visit the online calendar or call the Children’s room at 978-399-2302 to register.

Ukulele Strum-Along: You Learn to Play by Playing: Saturday, Jan. 27 at 2 p.m. Focusing on 2 and 3 chord songs, this program is for the beginner ukulele player who wants to practice and play music with others. Singing is encouraged. Ukuleles available to borrow, songs are projected onto a screen so no music stands or books are necessary. This new program will meet on a monthly basis. Participants can register to borrow a ukulele (through our online calendar or call the Information Dept. at 978-399-2304) or bring their own. Open to adults and teens.

Teen & Tween Advisory Board Meeting: Saturday, Jan. 27 at 3 p.m. Teens join the Library’s Teen and Tween Advisory Board and provide input for our Teen and Tween Summer Reading Program and support to the young adult librarian.  No experience necessary, but participants must be in grades 5-9 and live in Westford, or the parent must be a member of the Friends of the Library. The meeting(s) will be held in the Children’s Story Hour Room.

Teen and Tween Make & Take  Monday : Monday, Jan. 29 at 3:30 p.m. Imagine, create, and participate!  Each Monday teens will participate in a variety of hands-on activities that will include making seasonal crafts, exploring STEAM activities, and creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces.  All materials will be provided at the program in the Library’s Meeting Room. This week they will be making snowman cookies and water bottle wind spirals.  This is a free, drop-in event. Registration is not required.

Lego® Club: Saturday, Feb. 3 from 2 to 3 p.m. Come create something fun with Library Legos. All creations will be displayed in the library until the next meeting. Free drop-in for ages 5 and up with parent or caregiver.

Teen and Tween Make & Take Mondays: Monday, Feb. 5 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Imagine, create, and participate! Each Monday teens will participate in a variety of hands-on activities that will include making seasonal crafts, exploring STEAM activities, and/or creating one-of-a-kind masterpieces. All materials will be provided at the program in the Library’s Meeting Room. This week they will make Spinning Nerf Gun targets and glitter clothespin snowflakes. This is a free, drop-in event.  Registration is not required.

J.V. Fletcher Adult Book Discussion Group:  Thursday, Feb. 8 at 7:30 p.m. Discuss “Britt-Marie Was Here” by Fredrik Backman. Copies of the current reading selection are available for check-out at the Main Desk. New Members are always welcome. Free. Drop in.
