High winds and drenching rain knocked the power out in reportedly 30,000 Massachusetts homes on Friday, May 15.

Westford resident Terry Eliasen, executive weather producer for WBZ/CBS, Boston, tweeted that the storm may have been a microburst, a sudden localized air current.

At 17 Tenney Road, fallen trees barely missed the house and parked cars. The weight of the trees on wires left the residents with no electricity. On Saturday afternoon, May 16, tree removal companies lined Keyes Road, an offshoot of Tenney. Roads were closed in several locations as late as 5 p.m., including Depot Street.

The storm brought down trees in Chelmsford and Groton, as well.
