WESTFORD — Here’s the April 6 edition of the Wednesday Whiteboard, where we highlight important dates and events during the week in Westford. 

News and upcoming events around town

The Westford Health Department recently unveiled its events for National Public Health Week, including a free Zumba dance class for families. Abbot Elementary School is hosting the class on Saturday, April 9 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The Parish Center for the Arts is hosting the Jazz Punishers, described as “nouveau classic jazz and R&B with a contemporary spice,” according to the center. The center is hosting the concert on Saturday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here

Westford Climate Action kicked off Earth Month with a variety of family-friendly events. The group is hosting its second guided nature walk at Stone Arch Bridge on Saturday, April 9 from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. 

The J.V. Fletcher Library is continuing to host a number of in-person and virtual events, including a virtual financial literacy workshop for young adults. This four-part series is hosting its third workshop, “Decisions, Decisions” on Wednesday, April 6 at 7 p.m. Those interested can register here. Additional events can be found below.

The League of Women Voters in Westford is hosting a virtual Candidate’s Night on Wednesday, April 13 from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Voters are encouraged to submit questions online. Questions can also be submitted ahead of the broadcast until Friday, April 8. Questions can submitted during the broadcast. The event will be streamed on WestfordCAT, YouTube and on the League’s website.

WestfordCAT has added to its list of candidates. WestfordCAT recently spoke with J.V. Fletcher Library Board of Trustees incumbent Elizabeth “Buffie” Diercks, as well as incumbent Glen Secor on their reelection.

The station previously spoke with School Committee hopefuls Meghan O’ConnellDerek LoMarisol Garcia and Betsy Kwon, as well as committee incumbent Sean Kelly. In addition, WestfordCAT spoke with Board of Health hopeful Melissa Mackey, as well as incumbents Susan Hanly and Stephanie Granger on their candidacy.

Important municipal dates

The Select Board will review Annual Town Meeting Warrant articles on Tuesday, April 12. They will decide the order in which each article will appear on the Warrant. The Board has not announced a time for its meeting. 

The deadline to register to vote for the Annual Town Election is Wednesday, April 13 at 8 p.m.

Government meetings

Westford’s Affordable Housing Trust will meet virtually on Zoom on Wednesday, April 6 at 7 p.m.

Westford’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee School and Education Subcommittee will meet virtually on Zoom on Wednesday, April 6 at 7 p.m.

Westford’s Finance Committee will hold a joint meeting with the Select Board on Thursday, April 7 at 7 p.m. on Zoom. The Financial Committee plans to review Annual Town Meeting Warrant articles and will hold discussions on full-day kindergarten. 

The J.A. Crisafulli School Advisory Council will meet on Tuesday, April 12 at 4 p.m. in the school’s conference room.
