WESTFORD CENTER — The Town, in partnership with CHOICE, Inc., has received state funding from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to redevelop the historic Town Farm property at 35 Town Farm Road into mixed-income senior housing, officials announced.

The project will create 35 units of housing for residents aged 62 and older, including apartments designated for low-income seniors. Plans also include space for the town’s food pantry, expanding access to essential services while preserving a key historic site.

The funding marks a major milestone in a yearslong effort to save the Town Farm property, which faced possible demolition after sitting without a defined use. In 2020, town officials launched a community-driven process that included public tours, preservation planning and the establishment of historic restrictions to protect the property’s architectural features.

The site includes an 1837 Federal-style brick building and a 1901 addition, both of which will be preserved as part of the redevelopment. A town-appointed task force later issued a request for proposals seeking adaptive reuse plans that balanced preservation with community needs. Following a competitive process, CHOICE, Inc. was selected to lead the project.

“This project reflects Westford’s commitment to honoring its history while addressing critical community needs,” Town Manager Kristen Las said. “The governor’s funding announcement affirms the thoughtful planning and collaboration that brought us to this point.”

David Hedison, executive director of CHOICE, Inc., said the organization anticipated a lengthy process to secure funding.

“Five years and two months later, we are proud to celebrate this announcement,” Hedison said.

Project leaders expect to finalize financing in the coming months, with construction anticipated to begin in June 2026. The goal is to welcome residents by summer 2027.

Once completed, the Town Farm Road Residences will transform the historic property into a supportive community, allowing seniors to remain in Westford while continuing the site’s long-standing legacy of service.
